This is an advice column by a credit expert. The first half of the article addresses how long late payments can affect your credit score.
The main point is:
“Most lenders don’t
care why you were late, by the way; they just care that you
were.”
And late payments can affect you for up to 7 years.
To keep your credit score from going lower, do what you can to avoid making a late payment.
There have been times when I’m making an 11th hour call to make a payment, even paying a $15 fee for the convenience of me paying them money!
